Be sure to select "I am a Farmer" or appropriate level of involvement with local food. We define a Farmer as someone who grows and sells food directly to your local community. 2.10.24 This system of Items for Free, For Sale, and Borrow is still in the works! See items on the list. Pictures of items can be found here. The GOAL of starting a rental system, is so farmers can try things out before committing/purchasing. Or, in the case of heat mat thermostats, use ours until your new one comes in. Eventually we hope to provide a way for farmers to rent out things to other farmers. If you have something you want to donate or list, let me know. To rent things from us, we just need a card on file and you need to have donated (any amount) or currently sell through Northeast Georgia Locally Grown.
Example of currently listed items:
Winstrip rigid seedling trays 72 cell and 128 cell 10x20. 10 week rental.
Heat mat and/or thermostats for seedling heat mat (has some creases from being in storage)
2.10.24 Compost Buying Tipsheet: "Keep in mind that a laboratory test of the vendor’s compost is not a guaranteed analysis for compost you purchase because of the lack of uniformity in compost products. Some of the parameters may be pH, soluble salts, nutrient content, water-holding capacity, stability, organic matter content, moisture content, particle size and bulk density."
COMPOST SOURCES. A couple of us in the Network have had decent experiences with compost from Athens. Delivery is the trick, of course. Another compost is from Georgia Soil, which is OMRI listed until December 2025, but there are mixed feelings about that one. Some say it was fine, others are wary. The company has changed hands a few times. There is also OMRI certified compost at Head-Lee Nursery in Seneca, SC.
Have an experience with any of these sources? Let us know, so we can continue providing the best regional resources through peer review.

12.5.23 We are bulk ordering rhubarb crowns to get the price down to $3.50 each + shipping from West Union Gardens. "Crimson Red" rhubarb is the standard for fresh market and quite hardy and adaptable for use in different areas. Stalks are nicely colored, with an all-red interior at their base, fading to pinkish-green at the top. Divisions are large, averaging 14 oz each. The larger the rhubarb crown the more energy is retained. Crown size is directly related to the time it takes to establish a harvestable rhubarb plant. See website here. Crowns are not Certified Organic, but would be considered CNG if not harvested until second year of your care (when using organic practices). We should have some available after deadline. Email farmresources@gmfn.org for more info.
